Maria Badshamiah

Artist, designer, illustrator, teacher

Hello, I’m Maria Badshamiah, a glass and fine art specialist with a deep love for transforming materials into meaningful, tactile pieces.

I graduated with a BA (Hons) in Decorative Arts from Nottingham Trent University in 2013, where I experimented with copper, embroidery, and screen printing before fully embracing kiln-formed glass.

My work has been featured in The World of Interiors magazine, and I was honoured as the Winning Artist for Nottingham Industrial Museum in 2017, where my industrial-inspired designs earned the East Midlands' Regional Heritage Award. I’ve exhibited at the British Craft Trade Fair and the Parallax Art Fair, and my pieces have found homes in private collections across the UK and beyond.

Glass allows me to capture light, movement, and emotion in a way that few other materials can. Whether it’s bespoke commissions, functional art, or themed collections, I aim to create pieces that tell a story. I also mentor and tutor, sharing my passion for creativity while helping others explore their own artistic voices. My work is inspired by architecture, nature, and the emotional connections we have with objects.

Beyond glass, I love working with mixed media, especially in ways that connect art with poetry and storytelling. One of my recent works, Seascape Beauty, pairs acrylic painting with my handwritten poetry to explore the relationship between humanity and nature. Looking ahead, I’m keen to develop more mindful art inspired by poetry, particularly through my work with the Louis MacNeice Society.

I’ve also gained hands-on experience at London Glass Blowing and volunteered at the British Glass Biennale, where I deepened my understanding of the technical and creative aspects of working with glass. Whether through exhibitions, commissions, or teaching, my goal is to create art that resonates—pieces that invite reflection, spark curiosity, and bring beauty into the world in an intentional, thoughtful way.
