David Bixler
Saxophonist, Composer and Teacher of Jazz
I’m David Bixler. My life revolves around creating music, sharing it with others, and inspiring the next generation of jazz musicians.
After studying jazz at Indiana University and later earning a master’s in composition, I embarked on a journey that’s taken me from touring with legends like Lionel Hampton and Toshiko Akiyoshi to earning a Latin GRAMMY with the Chico O’Farrill Afro-Cuban Big Band.
Over the years, I’ve channelled my life experiences into my compositions, whether leading my quintet or exploring new projects like The Langston Hughes Project vol. 1. My work as Director of Jazz Studies at Bowling Green State University allows me to mentor aspiring musicians while performing and teaching worldwide as a Selmer and Vandoren Artist.
Through the challenges and triumphs of my journey, music has remained my constant source of expression and purpose, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to share it with others.
I also host LINER NOTES, a podcast where I engage in candid conversations with jazz musicians. It’s a platform to explore their creative journeys, inspirations, and challenges, offering listeners an intimate glimpse into the lives and minds of some of today’s most compelling artists in the jazz world.
