Ot to Plesner , creative director, innovator, and storyteller, crafts immersive shows and experiences that blend technology with raw human emotion through RenaiXance . Otto’s work pushes the boundaries of traditional performance, embracing the digital age while staying rooted in theatrical artistry. Born into a family steeped in opera, Otto’s artistic sensibilities were shaped early on. His connection to theatre and entertainment has driven him to explore new ways of engaging audiences, blending storytelling with cutting-edge technology. His professional journey began with Arbis Teatern in Sweden, where he performed as a musical theatre artist and burlesque dancer while also managing productions. This early hands-on experience in both artistic and operational aspects of theatre laid the foundation for his future leadership in the industry. Between 2014 and 2016, Otto co-founded Pink Human, a creative venture dedicated to conceptual development and artistic experimentation. Following this, he moved to Paris, where he worked with Omnistage Productions as a producer, refining his skills in storytelling and project execution. His trajectory continued as he took on a leadership role at the Danish National School of Performing Arts from 2016 to 2019, serving as a production and stage manager. During this time, he developed a keen understanding of theatrical production on a larger scale, guiding projects from concept to execution. In 2020, Otto became the Creative Director for Plugged Live Shows in the Netherlands, overseeing large-scale productions and collaborating with global brands. His tenure there saw him developing immersive experiences that redefined how audiences engage with live entertainment. In 2023, Otto embarked on a new chapter, founding RenaiXance—an avant-garde creative studio dedicated to pushing artistic boundaries. RenaiXance is more than just a production house; it is a movement, a collective of visionaries committed to crafting experiences that ignite imagination. With bases in Amsterdam and Copenhagen, RenaiXance operates on a global scale, curating bespoke performances that captivate audiences and inspire action. Working with world-renowned institutions like Universal Pictures, World Expo Dubai, or the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, Otto and his team are at the forefront of artistic innovation. Recognised as a thought leader in the intersection of creativity and technology, Otto was named a LinkedIn Top Creativity and Innovation Voice in 2023, amassing a following of over 23,000. As a keynote speaker, he continues to share his insights on the future of art, innovation, and the evolving landscape of live experiences. Through his relentless pursuit of artistic evolution, Otto Plesner stands at the forefront of a new renaissance in performance and storytelling—one where imagination knows no limits, and the future of art is redefined with every creation. The Art of Memory: Otto Plesner's current project As a change from the usual fantasy cultural year, Otto introduced the project The Art of Memory, which aims to raise awareness about Alzheimer's disease through immersive experiences. In a nutshell The project involves a deeply moving story, multi-sensory experiences, and collaborations with digital artists, with potential locations in London or the United States. Otto discussed his search for partnerships, sponsorships, and a suitable venue, with Mark offering support and suggesting potential investors or philanthropists. Where it comes back to Otto explained that his grandmother had passed away from Alzheimer's, and he had written a song to reconnect with her. He played the song at her Alzheimer's home, and for a brief moment, she remembered him and their family. The Art of Memory project aims to use art as a catalyst for change and to have a real-life impact on people's lives. The project Otto proposed using multi-sensory experiences, including music, scent, and visuals, to trigger memories and emotions. The experience would follow the journey of a couple from falling in love to the wife's death due to Alzheimer's. Otto also mentioned incorporating data from EEG and fMRI scans of Alzheimer's patients and healthy brains into the experience. The project involves a script, set design, and collaboration with digital artist Scrambler. The aim is to create a deeply moving story that captures the emotional aspects of both the patient's and caregiver's experiences. How you can help Otto discussed his search for partnerships, sponsorships, and a suitable venue for his project, which aims to raise awareness about Alzheimer's disease. He mentioned that the project has already made significant progress, with scripts, set design, visuals, and talent in place. Otto is considering London or the United States as potential locations for the project, given the high prevalence of Alzheimer's in these regions. He also shared his budget estimates, ranging from $400,000 for a smaller scale to $1.7 million for a larger scale, depending on the scale and complexity of the project. - Dora Derado Giljanovic - Curator & Art Manager.
Develop your own profile, network, career, and/or business by joining us at The Arts and Culture Network as a full member. It's just £10 per month. Cancel any time. Benefits are here . This profile is just one of them. Meet Dora Derado Giljanovic. Founder of DLightful, full-service art curation, management & design. Dora Derado Giljanovic isn’t your run-of-the-mill art historian. No, she’s the type to roll up her sleeves, dive headfirst into the tangled web of contemporary art, and come out with a PhD in Art History and a mind that never stops dissecting, curating, and questioning. She’s made it her mission to bring art down from its ivory tower and plant it firmly in people’s everyday lives. In the interview, Mark created Dora's fantasy cultural year. Expect surprises, anecdotes, laughs and conversational detours in the video above or the audio version below. Her journey into the art world started in the sun-drenched city of Split, where she studied Art History and English Language and Literature at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. This is where she first began unpicking the enigma of what makes art, well, art. Her Master’s thesis, "How Artistic is Prehistoric Artistry?" wasn’t just an academic exercise—it was an intellectual adventure, pitting ancient artifacts against centuries of art theory to determine where creativity meets intention. But Dora doesn’t just think about art—she makes things happen. After a stint as an Art History professor, she transitioned into research, throwing herself into the "Crosculpture" project, an ambitious study mapping the manifestations of modern sculpture in Croatia. When she wasn’t buried in archival research, she was out there curating exhibitions, writing, designing, and ensuring that contemporary artists got the recognition they deserved. Then came DLightful Services , Dora’s brainchild and a full-service hub for artists, galleries, and cultural institutions in need of a guiding hand. Whether it’s exhibition curation, digital marketing, web design, or just figuring out how to get an artist’s work seen in the saturated art market, she’s the go-to person. Think of her as an art-world Swiss Army knife—versatile, effective, and always ready to tackle a creative challenge. Her work isn’t just about making things look pretty (though she’s got a sharp eye for design). It’s about communication—helping artists articulate their vision, translating complex ideas into accessible narratives, and making contemporary art less intimidating. From public speaking engagements to scholarly research, she’s on a mission to bridge the gap between art and its audience. Beyond running DLightful Services, she’s been a freelance translator, research assistant, project manager, and curator—all roles that add to her ever-expanding skillset. A member of both HULU Split and AICA Croatia, she’s firmly embedded in the art scene, constantly pushing the conversation forward. If you need someone who can take your artistic ambitions and turn them into reality, Dora is the person you call. She’s not just an art historian; she’s an art advocate, strategist, and creative powerhouse, determined to make the world a little more artful—one project at a time. A Fantasy Cultural Year: Dora's Dream Artistic Journey In the interview above Mark created Dora's Fantasy Cultural Year from the answers to a few simple questions. There are no wrong answers ;-) Dora’s journey of cultural discovery began with a lively discussion about her favourite building—the Hundertwasserhaus in Vienna. She pictured herself at a pavement café nearby, sipping an Aquiato macchiato and engrossed in Art as Therapy by Alain de Botton and John Armstrong. Their conversation was filled with humour, anecdotes, and playful challenges, as Mark devised a fantasy cultural year inspired by Dora’s responses to easy questions. Her adventure unfolded when a prestigious Viennese arts foundation invited her to embark on a year-long global research project exploring the intersection of art and therapy. The catch? She would need to travel with her 16-month-old child and a full-time nanny. Dora embraced the opportunity, albeit with a flexible timeline to accommodate her little one’s needs. With her itinerary set, Dora arrived in London, where trainee art therapists welcomed her to a beautiful riverside loft apartment. The foundation offered her an evening of cultural indulgence—a dance performance and dinner—but Dora opted for a concert instead. Her travels took her across continents, with a carefully curated cultural programme: A Flamenco performance by Sarah Barras, followed by a vibrant Mexican feast. A trip to New Orleans to experience live ice-skating and step into the world of early Kandinsky. A week on the Croatian island of Brač, immersing herself in a historic concert, theatre play, musical, opera, and film screening. A deep dive into theatre and opera, where she proposed Aquarius and The Master and Margarita , discovering that the latter had already been adapted for the stage. Mark introduced her to The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp , a film she hadn’t seen but agreed to watch. As their conversations unfolded, Mark presented Dora with a hypothetical challenge: a year-long global mission to interview people about art therapy. This sparked ideas of TED Talks, book deals, and even a TV series chronicling her journey. When asked whom she’d invite for a leisurely lunch, Dora chose Alain de Botton but hesitated over his historical guest choice—eventually landing on Jung. To round off their imaginative exchange, Mark quizzed Dora in the This or That game. Her instinctive choices included sparkling water over still, radio over TV, dark chocolate over milk, comedy over drama, and reggae over rock. She saw herself as an early riser, a fan of spicy food, and someone who preferred seeing the future over reliving the past. Dora’s fantasy year of cultural exploration blended intellectual curiosity, artistic indulgence, and playful spontaneity—an adventure shaped by her passion for art, storytelling, and human connection. A Fantasy Cultural Year: Kulvinder's journey of discovery, heritage, and celebration In the interview above Mark created Kulvinder's Fantasy Cultural Year from the answers to a few simple questions. There are no wrong answers ;-) Kulvinder Reyatt’s fantasy cultural year begins at the foot of the Burj Khalifa, where he enjoys a Disaronno on the rocks as the Dubai sun sets, reflecting on an exciting new opportunity. A prestigious but fictitious Dubai-based family foundation has invited him to embark on a year-long, first-class global tour to study museum digitisation, a subject at the heart of his work. With all personal and professional responsibilities seamlessly handled by a dedicated virtual assistant, he sets off to New York City, his first stop in exploring how the world’s museums are embracing digital transformation. Settling into a Greenwich Village townhouse, Kulvinder immerses himself in the city's vibrant cultural scene. His soundtrack for the year? Reggae music, a choice rooted in his love for Bob Marley and the deep cultural resonance of the genre. His first cultural outing is an electrifying Bhangra dance festival, where he doesn’t just spectate, he joins in, celebrating the rhythmic energy of his heritage. Dinner follows at a top-tier Japanese restaurant, where he indulges in a Teppanyaki feast. The journey continues with an unforgettable sports experience: watching England take on the United States at Yankee Stadium, followed by a visit to an immersive VR digital art gallery, where he steps inside the visionary sketches of Leonardo da Vinci. His week in New York crescendos with a meticulously curated arts itinerary: 🎶 A Diljit Dosanjh concert to make up for missing his UK tour. 🎭 A night at the Globe Theatre in London for a stirring performance of Macbeth. 🎼 A Broadway debut with Phantom of the Opera, marking his first-ever musical experience. 🎤 A grand evening at La Scala in Milan, witnessing the powerful opera Tosca. 🎥 A film night featuring the deeply moving The Green Mile, one of his all-time favourites. A special highlight of the year is his "Hero Day", where he enjoys an intimate Michelin-starred lunch in New York with his late father, and his son, cherishing the legacy of family stories and laughter. As his year of cultural exploration wraps up, he boards a private jet home. A note arrives alongside a Disaronno and coffee, his reggae music restriction has been lifted. The first song he chooses? Bhangra music, embracing its infectious energy and deep-rooted cultural purpose, perfectly mirroring the spirit of his journey. Reflecting on this dream year, Kulvinder acknowledges one key takeaway: he needs to make more time for culture in real life. A Fantasy Cultural Year: Helen's Dream Artistic Journey In our interview above I created Helen's Fantasy Cultural Year from the answers to a few simple questions. There are no wrong answers ;-) Helen embarked on an imaginative journey through her ultimate year of cultural exploration, blending personal comforts, artistic passions, and intellectual pursuits. Helen's journey began in the warmth of her own home, nestled by the fire with a glass of Malbec (or mulled wine in winter) and a selection of books, including Malcolm Gladwell’s The Tipping Point and the fantasy novel Blood, Sister, Scribe . She also always keeps a notebook close for spontaneous inspiration. Her adventure took flight when a fictitious wealthy family foundation in Manchester recognised her expertise in communication and the arts. They offered her a prestigious year-long research project titled Ideas in Action , exploring how arts and culture organisations worldwide effectively bring their ideas to audiences. The project came with a book deal, a global university lecture tour, a TED Talk, and even a TV series. With everything at home settled, Helen set off in first-class style to Vienna, her chosen starting point, fascinated by its rich artistic history and modern innovations in cultural engagement. Upon arrival, she was welcomed by a team of young creative minds and taken to a stunning loft apartment overlooking Vienna’s Musikverein. With a magic wand and time machine to hand, that evening, she attended a dream performance by Diversity , a dance group she greatly admires, followed by a Japanese dinner, her favourite cuisine. Her cultural itinerary was packed: she attended a thrilling women’s football match (Austria vs. England), stepped inside a Monet painting via virtual reality, and experienced a week of artistic indulgence: A Nirvana concert for her rock concert choice A theatrical performance of The Kite Runner A Broadway production of Moulin Rouge! (from her top five musicals, alongside Wicked, Hamilton, Matilda , and Cats ) An introduction to opera with a new production of Tosca A screening of The Greatest Showman , one of her all-time favourite films Before heading home, Helen enjoyed a "Hero Lunch" at an elegant Japanese restaurant, where she chose to dine with Chris Evans (Virgin Radio host), whom she admires for his infectious positivity and creative energy. She speculated that he might, in turn, pick Rich Roll , a figure he deeply respects. After completing her transformative year, publishing her book, filming her TV series, and delivering a TED Talk, Helen was finally free from her one-year restriction to musical theatre. The first music she eagerly listened to? Oasis , although missing out on tickets to their reunion tour remained a sore subject. Helen Nurse’s Fantasy Cultural Year was a whirlwind of inspiration, creativity, and cultural immersion, an adventure reflecting her deep passion for storytelling, the arts, and the power of ideas in action.the world of arts and culture. This profile is just one of them. Meet Ed Khristus, design strategist and founder at Ettyq . Ed Khristus is an accomplished entrepreneur, executive, and design strategist with over 15 years of experience in digital product development and business transformation. Several of his clients are arts and culture organisations. In our interview together I created Ed's fantasy cultural year. As the Managing Partner of ettyq , a creative design agency based in London, he has played a pivotal role in shaping brand strategies and user experiences for companies navigating change. His career is defined by his commitment to innovation, strategic leadership, and a vision for integrating ethics and aesthetics in design. Early Career and Digital Innovation Ed began his professional journey in 2009 as a System Analyst and UX Designer at CBOSS, Inc., where he led the development of business process monitoring web systems and contributed to advancements in value-added services (VAS). This role provided him with a strong foundation in digital transformation and strategic product development. In 2011, he transitioned into UX design and project management, delivering over 20 projects for major global brands, including Samsung, Intel, Hyundai, McDonald’s, and Ikea. His expertise in user experience and design strategy positioned him as a leader in digital product development. Leadership and Business Transformation From 2012 to 2013, Ed served as Head of Delivery at 2Nova Interactive, where he managed project portfolios, integrated Agile methodologies, and streamlined production processes. His leadership in digital transformation continued with the co-founding of Lominfo in 2016, a platform designed to connect independent metal processors and factories. Through a Progressive Web Apps (PWA) model, he optimized operations and user engagement, successfully scaling the platform before selling it to a strategic investor. In 2018, Ed co-founded ITBB, a marketplace that facilitated the buying and selling of IT businesses. Under his leadership, ITBB introduced innovative UI/UX enhancements, increased user engagement, and achieved significant revenue growth, leading to a successful acquisition by a market leader in 2023. Establishing ettyq and Advancing Design Strategy In 2023, Ed became the Managing Partner of ettyq, a London-based design agency specialising in transformative branding and strategy. With a focus on businesses undergoing mergers, acquisitions, and structural changes, ettyq helps brands establish strong, authentic, and visually engaging identities. Ed believes that design is not merely aesthetic but a powerful tool for effective communication and business differentiation. Through ettyq, Ed continues to push the boundaries of conventional design, integrating storytelling and ethics into branding strategies. His leadership ensures that businesses stand out in competitive markets while maintaining long-term sustainability. Contributions to Global Design Trends Beyond his corporate role, Ed is preparing for a global lecture tour to explore the underlying drivers of design innovation. Backed by a prestigious family foundation, this initiative will examine emerging design trends worldwide, potentially leading to a book publication and a TED Talk. Ed has expressed a preference for studying timeless design principles over fleeting trends, emphasising the importance of strategic brand identity. His research will begin in Spain or Portugal, where he seeks to uncover unique approaches to visual communication and business transformation. Cultural Interests and Personal Endeavours Ed is deeply engaged in arts and culture, contributing to branding and digital strategy for Bechstein Hall (above), a historic London venue that recently reopened after a century-long closure. Music is a central passion in Ed’s life. He enjoys jazz, British indie pop, and metal, frequently discussing his appreciation for bands like Dream Theatre and Kings of Leon. His cultural explorations also extend to theatre, digital art, and performance arts, making him a well-rounded advocate for creative expression. Future Vision and Impact Looking ahead, Ed Khristus remains dedicated to driving innovation in design, branding, and digital strategy. His upcoming projects, including the Beckstein Hall launch and the global research initiative on design transformation, are set to influence the future of business storytelling and brand development. His ability to merge strategic thinking with artistic integrity positions him as a leader in the evolving world of digital design. Ed lives in London and continues to inspire through his work, emphasising the role of ethics and aesthetics in shaping meaningful business narratives. Ed's Fantasy Cultural Year The Fantasy Cultural Year is a concept explored by Ed Khristus and Mark, centred on curating a year-long cultural itinerary based on personal experiences and artistic influences. The initiative included structured yet imaginative elements, such as: Selecting an iconic architectural landmark (Ed chose Fulham Palace and Craven Cottage, home of Fulham FC). Imagining a preferred beverage at a historic café (Ed opted for a pint of beer from Nick Oil). Choosing a travel destination for cultural immersion (Ed selected Porto, Portugal). Committing to a single musical genre for a year (Ed debated between jazz and British indie pop, particularly Arctic Monkeys). Planning a week of cultural experiences, including theatre, opera, pop concerts, and digital art exhibitions. Designing a fantasy lunch date at a Michelin-starred restaurant, where Ed humorously chose Kurt Cobain as his guest. As part of this cultural vision, Ed’s upcoming trip to Porto included attending a digital art exhibition, a theatre performance, and a Fulham vs. Porto football match. His enthusiasm for Dream Theatre and progressive rock further influenced the musical aspects of the Fantasy Cultural Year. Ultimately, this concept was a fusion of reality and imagination, showcasing Ed’s appreciation for arts, music, and storytelling. It demonstrated his belief in design as a cultural force that shapes personal and professional identities. Ed Khristus on LinkedIn Email Ed Would you like to be interviewed and promoted in this way? This profile is just one of them. Meet Samantha Steele - Musician, Producer, Educator, and Consultant Samantha Steele’s journey in music began in Essex, where she attended Havering Music School. Learning both the violin and piano from the age of four, she developed a lifelong passion for music, nurtured by a diverse range of influences, from reggae and soul to orchestral and cinematic compositions. Her professional career took root in music education, where she dedicated 16 years as a secondary music teacher. In this role, she worked both collaboratively and independently to create enriching opportunities for students, including organising extracurricular activities that allowed them to participate in orchestral concerts and engage with professional musicians. Her teaching career also extended internationally, where she served as both a music educator and a CELTA-certified English teacher. In addition to teaching, Samantha has built an impressive portfolio as a musician, producer, and project manager. As a violinist in the London Contemporary Chamber Orchestra (LCCO), she remains deeply connected to orchestral music while simultaneously composing and producing her own works. Her compositions often blend elements of soul, orchestral arrangements, and cinematic depth, reflecting her broad musical influences. Samantha Steele's production work includes collaborations with independent artists, resulting in multiple music releases. Actively sharing her work on platforms like SoundCloud and Instagram under the name "I Am Lady Steele," she is also growing her presence on LinkedIn as a composer and producer. Currently, Samantha is expanding her career into project management, leveraging her extensive experience in education and music. She has obtained a Project Fundamentals Qualification and is furthering her expertise through PRINCE2 and Agile methodologies. Alongside her studies, Samantha plays a key role in the Woolwich Works Creative Club, where she provides administrative management and supports creative programming. As an engaged member of the Arts and Culture Network, Samantha is committed to fostering creative communities. Her contributions help sustain initiatives that support artists and musicians, reinforcing her dedication to the cultural sector. Looking forward, Samantha aims to integrate her background in teaching, music, and project management into a dynamic career that bridges creative education, music production, and arts administration. Her journey exemplifies adaptability, passion, and continuous artistic and professional growth. Samantha's Fantasy Cultural Year In an imaginative and engaging interview, Mark Walmsley guided Samantha Steele through the creation of her ideal fantasy cultural year. Through a series of thoughtful questions, Samantha’s dream year unfolded, blending music, art, literature, and travel into a rich tapestry of experiences. The journey began at the Southbank Centre’s Festival Hall in London, where Samantha envisioned herself on the fifth-floor terrace, sipping a Negroni while anticipating an evening concert. Accompanying her was "The 5 AM Club," a book that had significantly influenced her, inspiring an early morning routine that transformed her productivity and well-being. The fantasy escalated when Mark introduced an enticing but fictitious opportunity, a prestigious, well-funded research role sponsored by a London-based foundation. The project focused on exploring the impact of music education, particularly composition and improvisation, on children's creativity. The position came with a TED Talk, a university lecture tour, a book deal, and even the prospect of a television series documenting her findings. When asked where she would begin her research, Samantha ultimately chose Cusco, Peru, a city she holds dear. Mark set the scene of a grand townhouse overlooking Cusco’s vibrant cityscape, where she would reside in luxury. Upon her arrival, a private jet whisked her from Lima to Cusco, where she was warmly welcomed by local musicians and educators eager to collaborate. Her cultural itinerary was equally enriching. She attended a contemporary dance performance, reflecting her deep appreciation for ballet and orchestral music. For dinner, she indulged in a fusion of French and Argentinian cuisine, combining two of her favourite culinary styles. When it came to sports, Samantha’s passion for athletics led her to choose a stadium event, particularly captivated by the electrifying atmosphere of a 100-meter sprint. A visit to a digital art gallery in Lima presented a unique opportunity, stepping into the surreal world of Salvador Dalí through virtual reality. She recounted how Dalí’s work had captivated her since her twenties, sparking a discussion on how his art could be translated into music, potentially through a project involving multiple composers interpreting his paintings in distinct styles. Samantha’s week of cultural indulgence with Mark unfolded as follows: Monday: A long-awaited concert by Amy Winehouse in an intimate Camden venue, fulfilling a missed opportunity from her past. Tuesday: A night at the theatre watching Agatha Christie's timeless mystery, "The Mousetrap." Wednesday: A Broadway or West End production of "Wicked," featuring its original cast. Thursday: An opera performance of "La Bohème," despite her initial hesitations about the genre. Friday: A film screening of "My Life Without Me," a poignant drama she highly recommended. As the dream year reached its finale, Mark invited Samantha to a hero’s lunch in Lima, where she could dine with any historical or cultural figure. After some reflection, she selected Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg, drawn to the beauty and emotional depth of his compositions. The interview concluded with Samantha reflecting on the experience, recognising how it had broadened her perspective and sparked new aspirations. Mark congratulated her on her recent professional endeavours and suggested a future follow-up to see how her real-life journey unfolds. This captivating and playful exercise provided a revealing glimpse into Samantha Steele’s artistic passions, intellectual pursuits, and the profound role of music, art, and education in her life.
