Meet Mike Strausbaugh.
Introducing Mike Strausbaugh, a guitar teacher and musical maestro whose journey is a testament to resilience, passion, and the transformative power of music.
In our interview, I created Mike's fantasy cultural year from the answers to 10 deceptively easy questions. Expect some surprises, laughs, and conversational detours.
Mike's credentials speak volumes: Music Mentor, former College Professor, and Guitar Ninja. He's graced the TEDx stage (TEDxCSULB, Nov 2022), earned accolades as an Award-Winning Composer, and holds not one, but three Master's degrees in Music Composition, Jazz Studies, and Classical Guitar.
Yet, behind the curtain of achievement lies a tale of unwavering courage in the face of adversity. Mike is a survivor, battling Common Variable Immunodeficiency (CVID), a relentless immune deficiency disease. From early battles with hemolytic anemia to repeated hospitalisations, his journey was fraught with challenges. But amidst the turmoil, music remained his steadfast companion.
Diagnosed at 36, Mike refused to let illness define him. He embarked on a remarkable journey of renewal, reclaiming his identity as a musician and educator. With grit and determination, he earned three Master's degrees, rediscovering the joy of music along the way.
Today, Mike's mission extends beyond personal triumphs. As the visionary behind Sträusbaügh Guitar and Music Academy, he offers a sanctuary for aspiring musicians. Rejecting conventional methods, his academy fosters a deeper understanding of music through genre-specific classes like Explörer’s Club, The Lounge, and Classix. Here, students don't just learn to play the guitar; they become true musicians under Mike's guidance.
Sträusbaügh Guitar and Music Academy isn't just about technique; it's about cultivating a profound connection with music. With Mike's boundless creativity and passion, students embark on a journey of self-discovery, transcending mere proficiency to embrace the artistry of music. Mike Strausbaugh continues to inspire and empower, his legacy resonating with every chord struck and every note played.

And here is a summary of our interview:
Mark, founder of the Arts and Culture Network, interviewed Mike Strausbaugh, a musician and educator. They discussed their shared experiences in music and teaching, with Mike highlighting his role as a teacher above all else. The conversation ranged from their mutual love for Dream Theater and classical music, particularly Beethoven, to hypothetical scenarios like a funded cultural study in Italy and a year dedicated to progressive rock/metal.
They fantasised about a luxurious trip to Florence, planning cultural activities and fine dining experiences. Mark also shared his preferences in music, books, visual arts, and film. The interview concluded with discussions about Mark's interests in swimming, salsa, and plans to embed Mike's Ted Talk link in his profile page.
